Living cost in Malaysia for international students


Going to Malaysia for studies? Don’t worry about living expenses.
Malaysia is cheaper than even most European study destinations such as Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia etc.

Malaysia is the most economical place for living including big and cosmopolitan cities like Kuala Lumpur. Every basic need is very economical as compare to European, Australian, American and most of Asian student cities.

You can find every basic necessity for living on very cheap rate including accommodation, food, transportation, medicine, books, stationery, travelling, entertainment etc.
An average student can live in US $ 375 per month.

As we discussed earlier on the blogs of Sunrise Education Consultants that cost of living depends on your living style. Some Bangladeshi students in Malaysia cut the cost of living in 1/3rd by sharing accommodation and food.

They are even able to survive in 100US$ per month. As an international student, you are advised to spend less on living and more on to get knowledge, because your basic purpose to go Malaysia to get knowledge.

Following is the estimated cost of living:

ACCOMMODATION:

There are different choices of residence for students in Malaysia.
As student you can live in hostel, hall or residence, private room / flat / apartment or rent shared flat / apartment.
The rent for these accommodations is depending on their location, size and facilities. Normally students rent furnished accommodation. This furnished accommodation costs US $ 94 to US  141 per month.

FOOD AND HOUSEKEEPING EXPENSES:

Food is also very cheap in Malaysia.
There are lots of restaurants, cafes, fast food points, canteens are available for dine out.
But dinging out is always expensive choice of eating. As a student you should prepare your meal yourself. If you cook for yourself then average cost of food would be lessor per month.

TRAVELLING:

If you are living in a distance from your campus then you would have to take public transport for travelling.
It charges also very low fare. You may be spending US $ 13 per month for travelling in the city.

UTILITY BILLS:

Utility bills like telephone, mobile phone, and internet are also very affordable in Malaysia. As student you will need US $ 17 per month to pay your utility bills.

LAUNDRY AND CLOTHING:

You will need to spend US $ 19 for washing, ironing and dry cleaning for your dresses.

BOOKS AND STATIONARY:

Cost of books and stationary depends on your course. Some courses require very few books and stationary items and some requires more.
And average cost may be incurred on books and stationary US $ 24 per month.

ENTERTAINMENT & PERSONAL EXPENSES:

It also depends on your life style. It totally depends on you that how much money you spend on your comfort and entertainment.

Normally US $ 32 to US $ 64 incur on personal expenses like shaving, hair cut, outing, movies, dine out and medical etc.
